as someone currently suffering an awful hangover right now, this feels slightly targeted. alas. i'm going to deviate slightly and not say a brand, but be absurdly specific anyway.

one of my cousins makes really fucking good margaritas. and i'm a sucker for a classic cocktail. so, margaritas specifically made by my cousin matt. idk how that would work, but the angel could sort it out i'm sure.

balance and sustainability, probably! for everything we take, we give back in some way.

the first thing that comes to mind is the aboriginal australian concepts of totems and moieties. i'm not aboriginal, so forgive me if i'm oversimplifying in a way that's not quite right (and by all means, correct and educate me further!). but there's this idea that in order to conserve and ensure the longevity of totems - which might be, for eg, sharks - members of one moiety would protect sharks, while the inverse would be able to eat/use sharks. everything is mirrored to retain balance.

since learning about it a couple of years ago the idea has stuck with me as a, genius, but b, inherently sensical. if i was given the opportunity to start fresh on natural grounds, i would probably take a lot of inspiration from native peoples. if i've learned anything, they knew what they were doing.

Im super excited to see what happens next in this if. I also love the paintings you're choosing for each chapter! I was curious if you knew the art history behind these paintings, I took an art history course about the depictions of animals in art and we discussed similar-if not the same-paintings in the class and the themes are so similar to ur if! I'm totally down to send a message abt it but I figured I'd give you some forewarning beforehand lol. Good luck with your writing!!

I would love to learn more about them! I've read a short essay by John Berger on the depiction of animals in art but I definitely need a refresher.

The paintings are all by Otto Marseus Van Schrieck and most of them come from his "Forest Ground" series (which felt very appropriate for the story.)
